The Tennessee Senate passed legislation sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson to revise the state’s disaster-response framework following lessons learned from Hurricane Helene.
Senate Bill 2232 would place administration of the Governor’s Response and Recovery Fund under the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and clarify how disaster assistance can be distributed following a declared emergency.
The legislation also addresses funding for needs including emergency debris removal and the repair or replacement of damaged roads, bridges, public buildings, utilities and other infrastructure.
