Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson joined Republican leaders in the General Assembly to announce a package of legislation addressing illegal immigration and Tennessee’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
The proposals addressed several areas of state law, including cooperation between state and federal authorities, employment verification, eligibility for certain public benefits and state-level enforcement measures.
Johnson said during the announcement that Tennessee would cooperate with federal immigration officials and that state leaders intended for the package to provide a model for other states considering similar policies.
